part 2 - first trimester

we did not expect to fall pregnant so quickly. it really did take us by, a warmly emotional, SURPRISE. in saying that, i didn’t realise any changes in me until about 4 weeks in. usually my cycle is to the day. to the 33rd day to be exact. so i was expecting a period shortly. i had all the normal PREMENSTRUAL symptoms, so nothing SUSPICIOUS except i walked up a flight of stairs and was completely out of breath. which was very strange for me because im usually fairly fit.

so i that night i said to michael that we should get a test just to suss it. we honestly expected nothing of it.

next minute….

we were DEFIANTLY pregnant.

it was a SURPRISE. emotional and lots of happy tears, but still a SURPRISE.

the next day i booked in to my local gp and had a blood test. this it alot more accurate than two lines on a plastic stick. the blood test shows your hcg levels which increase when you fall PREGNANT. and increase as you CONTINUE along the pregnancy,

Pregnancy plus app

I downloaded this app and found it really helpful. you can add photos to your timeline and document your experience. the app also shows you the DEVELOPMENT of your baby over the weeks.

now me being, well me, i decided to write in my notes all my symptoms week by week documenting how i was feeling. a lot of my friends who are mums i would ask ‘how did you feel at week 5’. and pretty much all responded the same. ‘ i don’t REMEMBER’. to be honest, i don’t remember either, so luckily i wrote it all down.

pretty much from the get go my boobs had TRIPLED in size. they went from a c to a g cup instantly. to this day they are the same size! help! also i needed to go to the toilet alot more frequently than before.

Week 3 and 4.

  • anxiety through the roof. im putting this down to shock of finding out we were pregnant. i was waking up at 5 am and taking rudy for the longest walks to try calm down.

  • shortness of breath.

  • this is us at the glamour on the grid - anxiety was insane! we only stayed for an hour.

week 5 and 6.

  • skin became really dry and peeling.

  • mild occasional nausea but nothing too crazy

emergency ultrasound

around week 6 i had abnormal bleeding. so i booked into see my gp and we had to get an emergency ultrasound. that was the first time we saw a little glimps of our baby and i believe we got a heartbeat from this appointment.

week 7

  • having really bad sleeps.

  • stomach cramps - like period pain

  • sore lower back

  • tired

  • really unmotivated

  • wow this sounds like a terrible week

week 8, 9 and 10

  • bloated feeling

  • dry skin still

  • dehyrated feeling

  • few cramps nothing major

leg rash

i had this strange leg rash for about 2 weeks. it wasn’t itchy, it was like little bumps everywhere. i don’t know what it was but i blamed it on pregnancy.

week 11, 12 and 13

  • sligHTLY nauseous

  • insomina - the worst! i could not sleep to save my life.

  • dermatisis all over my lower face and chin.

  • leg rash on my thighs and calves.

  • lower back pain.

alot of these symptoms are common. and i would say mine were on the less intense side. however, im not much of a complainer and i just carrIED on with life. so i DIDN'T allow any symptoms to effect my day.

i exercised everyday throughout my pregnancy. i did all the same workouts as usual. i did slow down on the cardio and try to keep my heart rate below the recommended rate. which i managed to do easily. exercise was the main thing which helped with any nausea i felt. it also helped with my bowel movements and just overall motivation to start my day.

I WAS DOING STRONG PILATES AND BFT WORKOUTS.

travel

i travelled so much in my first trimester.

i went to bali twice! tasmania. queensland a bunch of times. sydney. so many flights. everything was easy and completely fine.
