Thread Lifts?
why hello again.
yes i know it’s been a little while since i jumped on here. truth is, i haven’t been too adventurous with anything to blog about. but then i remembered just before the covid lockdown i decided to try out this treatment called ‘thread lift’. and no its nothing to do with eyebrow shaping.
if you haven’t seen or heard of thread lifts before than please strap yourself in for an absolute explosion of information.
so as you may already know, i just love trialling new beauty TREATMENTS out (to an extent) to see what they are all about. and now i get to share this experience with you.
okay let’s begin with what the heck a thread lift even is….
‘A thread lift is a type of procedure wherein temporary STRUCTURES are used to produce a subtle but visible "lift" in the skin. Instead of removing the patient's loose facial skin surgically, the cosmetic surgeon simply suspends it by stitching up portions of it.’
thank you google!
so before i get into my treatment i just want to explain and disclaim a few things.
thread lifts are cosmetic treatments
they are not the same as fillers
i am not encouraging this treatment, just sharing a experience
not all threads are the same and please speak to a professional for more information
okay firstly i went to this clinic. called facelab in hawthorn. why i went there? well price was in reasonable, they are close to my home and they had heaps of videos on their instagram. i wasn’t referred by anyone nor was there any ‘influencers’ promoting the clinic.
in the consultation, the doctor explained that the treatment would take around an hour to do. my face would be numbed and the threads would be inserted, ANCHORED and then pulled.
The benefits
Tightens sagging skin and improves skin texture and elasticity
Results are immediate, with minimal downtime
Non-invasive and less severe compared to a facelift
Used to treat sagging skin around the jawline, chin, mouth and cheeks
Minimal side effects
There are a whole bunch of different threads that are used for lifting. i don’t know what alot of them are but i had the mint (Minimally Invasive Nonsurgical Thread Facelift) thread which looks like the second image. the mint threads have results lasting around 2 years.
okay so after consultation i sat on treatment for a few weeks and yes i walked around the house pulling my face up in every single mirror, which sold me.
after the treatment the downtime was explained as minimal. well i beg to differ. i could not open my mouth for days! i could only have soup for the first few days and eventually crumpets by day 5. so for around a week i couldn’t excercise, eat or even brush my teeth as i normally would. lucky for me we went into stage 4 lockdown soon after and i didn’t need to go anywhere.
so this is the annoying thing with threads. they can pucker. on the left you can see a pull in my face which only happened when i smiled. it was really annoying and i would CONSTANTLY rub it. this is totally normal and lasted about 6 weeks.
now to my right was a dimple. so this was very visible even without any facial movements. UNFORTUNATELY, this lasted the entire 6 months. oh i may have forgotten to mention earlier that the threads last for 6 months. after the 6 months, they dissolve naturally, resulting in a huge stimulation of collagen which is what holds (lifts) your face.
Collagen helps support "growth factors" that greatly influences the condition of our skin. In addition to being used for wound healing, collagen helps to keep our skin strong, voluminous and supple. As we get older, our bodies gradually produce less and less collagen, which leads to an 80% reduction in skin thickness by about age 70. This loss of volume and strength is a large factor in the creation of excess skin and wrinkles. As the skin grows weaker, it's no longer able to support the tissues beneath it adequately, meaning that gravity pulls it downwards and stretches it. Infusing the skin of the face with fresh collagen when the signs of skin laxity are still mild can help to both reduce looseness (by thickening and hydrating the skin) and prevent it from getting worse (by strengthening the skin).
